Dear Tim,
Believe or not, I feel the same one. The people in my tuts whoop my ass in terms of discussion, especially incorporating issues of current affairs. What amazes me, is how much they know in detail of each issue (re to the long winded paragraphs). Like you, I sometimes think that its them pulling shit out of their asses (but usually, you can pick these out). But I generally feel out of touch in terms of current affairs. I don’t feel disappointed in myself, as I’m trying to attain their level of knowledge.
I don’t want you to be disappointed either, as long as your keeping at what you’re doing and enjoying it. You being in uni alone makes you more intellectual than a great majority of the population.

I don’t think our lack of knowledge in current affairs makes our opinion invalid, make us stupid or restrict our career paths to something involving language. Sure, our opinion won’t be as well informed as those who pull stuff out of their asses, but it’s an opinion, there is some basis to it and thus is valid. Moreover dear, it does not make us stupid. I think the uni environment is only a proportion of what we’re learning to be professionals; the majority of the learning comes from going out into the world and doing it. You pick up on it 10 times faster. Promise!

I’m really glad to know you’re also interested in working with an NGO once you’re done! Have you done anything with any NGO before?
